Clonmel Castle, Port Dover

Clonmel means Honey Meadow, in gaelic…. our Motto is Lus – Midhe which means FORGET ME NOT/ or UNFORGETABLE sits on a glorious three acres of english gardens beside a lovely waterfall, where the locals plash and play under the falls and in the pools.

United Empire Loyalist, William Francis first owned the valuable mill site (Ivy Dam) and the adjacent hill, the hill upon which Clonmel Castle is located today. From its height one could view the development of the village of Dover Mills and the Port, and then the smoke of its destruction by Campbell’s raiders in 1814.

In 1926 a local farmer William Henry “Harry” Barrett was alerted to an unclaimed estates notice in a magazine. More Barrett proved to the be legitimate heir of the fortune of Quintin Dick, the grandson of the founder of the Bank of Ireland. The fortune included priceless paintings, a large collection of silver and a library of books which can be found in the rare book section of the Royal Ontario Museum.
